Philips make some great electric toothbrushes, and we’re almost always impressed with what they have to offer with their Sonicare range. A lot of Sonicare brushes, however, tend to be full-to-the-brim with high-end features. As such, they do tend to have a price tag to match. Today, however, we’re taking a look at the Sonicare HX5350 CleanCare which is a cheaper Sonicare toothbrush that be had for under £30; Philips answer to the Oral B 1000 model. Can it hold up to the competition from the higher-end brushes? There’s only one way to find out!

The first thing to note is that the brush includes Philips’ patented sonic technology. This means that it is clinically proven to remove more plaque than a manual toothbrush.

The toothbrush is also designed from the ground up give you a better reach for a better clean. The slim, angled neck allows you to reach those hard to reach places, while it’s contoured-fit bristles make sure that you’re removing as much plaque as possible from those areas.

Also included is Philips’ SmartTimer technology. This means that the toothbrush will indicate to you once the dentist-recommended 2 minute brushing period is up. This is good for stopping brushes that are too brief; it’s all too easy to abandon brushing before you’ve given your teeth the attention they deserve, and this brush should help to fight against this!

Being aware that people with sensitive teeth and gums might need time to get used to using a sonic toothbrush, Philips have also included their Easy Start. What this does, is start you off slowly and gradually increases the speed and power of the brush over the first 12 brushes, allowing you time to get used to the power of the brush.

Also built in is a charging indicator light, comes with a travel charger for easy travelling, a worldwide two-pin plug, and 2 years manufacturer’s warranty.

Customer Reviews and Opinions

This brush has sold at a steady rate, and as such there area a lot of Philips’ customers out there who have one. Correspondingly, there are a lot of customer opinions and reviews available on this product. We can report that this toothbrush has a remarkably high level of customer satisfaction, with over 93% of customers giving this electric toothbrush glowing references.

“Believe me after wasting money on 2 other far far more expensive sonics this is all you need”

Almost all of the customer’s, even the ones who gave less than glowing reviews, all said that they were very happy with how well the toothbrush cleans the teeth. In fact, many customers remarked that it did such a good job that they felt it did the job better than some of the more expensive electric toothbrushes they’d tried!

Another point that a few people mentioned is that the battery holds a good charge, lasting over a week in-between charging. This was especially handy to those people who didn’t have a shaving outlet in the bathroom, and need to charge the toothbrush in another room.

While this may be a simple toothbrush, without the slew of features one would usually expect from an electric toothbrush, it’s clear that Philips have got this right where it counts. Cleaning the teeth! Time and time again people praised the capability of the brush to clean the teeth, and the value for money the toothbrush represented.

“A must buy, absolutely amazing. If you are looking for a toothbrush i would suggest this one.”

There were very few dissatisfied customers. Of the negative comments, we only found a couple of minor ones. First, the toothbrush only comes with a two-pronged shaver-type plug. Whilst this is perfect for traveling or charging in the bathroom, you’ll need to buy an adapter to use the charger with a standard wall outlet. That said, you can simply pick up an adapter when you order (they’re available for 99p online so aren’t going to break the bank)!

Whilst the lack of features might put off some people, anyone who simply wants an electric toothbrush that does a good job of cleaning the teeth without the bells and whistles of more expensive brushes should give the Sonicare HX5350 a serious look. It does exactly what it says on the tin! 3.5 Stars.

The Good

Cleans the teeth very well, just as well as a more expensive brush
Battery lasts for over a week
