Today we’re taking a look at the Oral B Professional Care 2000. We’ve been generally very impressed with the Professional Care range, from the cheap 500 model right up to the 3000. But where does the mid-range 2000 model slot in, and is it worth the extra money over the other models? Let’s take a look and find out.

As with all Oral B toothbrushes, the 2000 comes with their fantastic 3D cleaning technology built-in. This means that the handset performs 40,000 brush strokes per minute, as well as rotating 8,800 times. We’re big fans of this technology, and actually, recent independent studies have shown that electric toothbrushes that rotate actually remove more plaque than those that don’t. A definite feather in its cap!

The handset has all the usual timers you’d expect in a good electric toothbrush, including a Quadpacer timer which indicates when you should move the brush to a new section if your mouth, and an overall brushing timer which indicates when you’ve been brushing for the dentist recommended 2 minutes.

One of the things that sets this brush apart from the cheaper models, is the inclusion of 2 brushing modes. The normal ‘daily clean’ mode is the usual mode to use, and gives your teeth a complete and thorough brushing. The second mode included in a handy ‘sensitive’ mode, which still gives the teeth a thorough cleaning, but more gently so as not to cause discomfort to people who have sensitive teeth and gums. If you have sensitive teeth and are a worried that an electric toothbrush might be too strong for you, you’ll want to make sure that whatever brush you buy incorporates a sensitive mode such as this.

The brush also includes a built-in pressure sensor, which indicates to you when you are brushing too hard. This is a handy feature if you’re moving from a manual toothbrush, as a lot of people tend to apply too much pressure when brushing manually. This can damage the protective enamel on your teeth, so a pressure sensor is a great way to get you into good brushing habits and avoid this.

Also included in the package is the bathroom charger, and 2 brush heads (another bonus over the cheaper models which only include 1 head).

Customer Reviews and Feedback

As we’ve come to experience with most Oral B brushes, the Oral B Professional Care 2000 has been superbly received by the customers. Over 94% of feedback for the brush was extremely positive, with around 90% of all reviews being 4 or 5 star reviews. A with other Oral B brushes, the public have given this model a resounding thumbs up. S what in particular did they like at this brush? Let’s take a look at some most common points that were raised.

As expected, the majority of people mentioned that the 3D cleaning technology cleaned their teeth very well, and people moving to the 2000 from a manual toothbrush were particularly impressed. As we mentioned, the 2000 has the same specification as Oral Bs top of the line brushes, so this is to be expected.

One thing that quite a lot of people noted was that they found the charging base station of the 2000 to be more attractive than the other brushes in the range. While we think it’s going a little too far to call the base station attractive, it is definitely the smallest, most compact and least obtrusive electric toothbrush base station we’ve seen, so this is a big plus for anybody who hates having boxy and ugly chargers hanging around in their bathroom.

“I haven’t been disappointed. This was my first experience of a non-manual brush, if you will, and I can definitely say, I’ll never go back! It tells you off if you brush too hard by flashing a red light. This is a particularly good thing for me as the dentist just told me I’ve worn away the enamel on one tooth by over zealous brushing…oops!”

Quite a lot of people mentioned that they opted for the 2000 as it had a good range of useful features. At the same time, they felt that it successfully avoided too many features, and therefore didn’t have the gimmicky feel that a lot of higher end toothbrushes have. So it seems that people who were looking for a simple work-horse toothbrush were particularly drawn to the 2000.

There weren’t many negative comments about the 2000 to speak of, however a very common complaint was the amount of time that the battery takes to charge. Fully charging the battery takes up to 17 hours, which a lot of people simply found too long. However, equally, many people said that they were so happy with the cleaning abilities of the brush that he were happy to wait. This is a matter of taste, it’s easy enough to leave the toothbrush charging over night and during the day, but if you don’t want to constantly have the charger out you might want to go for a more expensive brush with a better quality battery.

“Great electric toothbrush, each time I use it, it feels like I’ve just come back from the dentist!”

As we expected, customers were very impressed with how the brush cleaned their teeth. The 3D cleaning technology in this brush is the same as Oral Bs flagship brush, and cleans just as well. If you’re not worried about high end features, then this brush could well be for you.

There are two points to consider before buying though. If you don’t require the sensitive mode that this brush has, you’d be better off saving a little money and going for the 1000 model, which is the same great brush minus the extra sensitive mode.

Overall, due to the great clean you’ll get due to its 3D cleaning technology, the added sensitive mode, the 2nd brush head you get in the pack, and the compact charging station, the Oral B Professional Care 2000 is getting a resounding thumbs up from us! 4 big fat stars for this one!
